Abstract: The poetry written by Émile Verhaeren (1855-1916) was received with enthusiasm by many writers and painters at the beginning of the twentieth century, among whom the poet Ramón de Basterra (1888-1928) and the painters Aurelio Arteta (1879-1940) and Darío de Regoyos (1857-1913). Their way of imagining and materializing their vision of the city of Bilbao reminds one of Émile Verhaeren, the poet who created the image of the “tentacular cities”.
