Abstract

In this paper we study two specific facts of the First and Second Messenian Wars: the rape of the Spartan parthenoi in Limnas and the attempted rape in Karyai. It’s about understanding the importance of these events for the identities of the Spartans and the Messenians and studying both actions in the religious context in which they took place, the sense of the cults and the location of the sanctuaries.
