Abstract

On March 9, 2011, the Directive about patient’s rights on cross-border health care was approved, concluding a process not exempted of problems and discussions between the States and the European institutions. The European patients’ right to receive health treatments in other Member State has been therefore recognized, as the European Court of Justice had defended for years, but the States have also armoured against the financial risks that a wide acceptance of this prerogative could have supposed them. The approved text is also a considerable advance in other questions that will facilitate the health care of the citizens when they move to other Member States.
