La falta de descendencia biológica. Una lectura social y feminista de la infertilidad de las mujeres

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to bring a closer look into infecundity in women from a sociological and a feminist approach in contemporary western societies, although it is known that there is diversity between countries and inside countries. First, it is necessary to point out some of the social meanings of maternity, as the symbolic images around them are the ones which define the consequences of the impossibility to reach maternity. Then, we will be able to understand the feelings of guilty and anguish of many women with infecundity because they cannot fulfil one of the most important personal and social attributions to women.
