Security Sector Reform is introduced here as an area related to the democratization of the security sector as well as to the enhancement of the rule of law. A reference to the European Union’s approach to the security sector is provided as well. It will be seen that security sector reform has become a priority for the European Union within its external action and more precisely with regard to crisis management and post-conflict stabilization.
