Abstract

The offences of embezzlement of public funds are one of the crimes linked to the phenomenon of corruption in the field of public sector, which has undeniable repercussions from the olden days, damaging public assets and the general trust in public officers and managers who have -due to their duties- to take care of funds and effects ascribed to State assets. According to the Report of the Attorney General's Office in 2013, convictions for crimes relating to corruption increased by 151% in the last 3 years, representing 44% misconduct of public officers and embezzlement of public funds 39% of the total one.
