This article examines the role of Local Police forces in protecting victims of gender-based violence in Spain through their integration into the VIOGEN system. Using a comparative study of two municipalities—Jaca (Huesca) and Cocentaina (Alicante)—we analyze functions, available resources, inter-institutional coordination practices, and barriers that limit municipal responses. The methodology combined documentary review and semistructured interviews with officers responsible for gender violence. Findings indicate that Local Police provide territorial proximity, contextual knowledge and immediate response capacity, but effectiveness depends on training, technological resources and stable coordination forums. Recommendations focus on improving training, interoperability and institutionalizing joint working spaces
