Historiographical Tensions in Contemporary Art Narratives: Disconnections between Electronic Art History and Mainstream Contemporary Art

Abstract

This article analyses the ways in which mainstream contemporary art historiography has largely ignored the development of electronic art. Thus, dominant contemporary art narratives have tended not to include artists, artworks or practices engaged in technological experimentation. After exploring different theories that constitute the state of the art in relation to the subject under study, I shall suggest critical strategies and conceptual groundings aimed at establishing connections between the histories of both fields.
