This article analyses the writings on the history of the Roman Republic by Lily Ross Taylor (1886- 1969), Professor at Bryn Mawr College and one of the great historians of her time, who developed important analyses of late Republican politics in the 1940s-1950s. Taylor’s work cannot be separated from her experiences in fascist Italy and the rise of the Nazi regime, which provided a relevant anchor and point of comparison for her research and made her a point of reference in the historiography of the second half of the twentieth century.
