This study examines the effects of Residential Schools on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children in Canada, emphasizing the severing of their ties to language, traditions, family, community, and nation. It underscores the importance of understanding the process of forced assimilation in Indigenous childhood experiences. Drawing on the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, it identifies key parameters for shaping a process capable of addressing the challenges of reconciliation and assessing the effectiveness of various mechanisms in fostering structural transformations within society.
