Decarbonization of maritime transport and the problem related to proofing greenhouse emissions in the EU
Abstract
Climate change, that is, long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns caused by human action related to the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil is a global concern whose consequences range from water scarcity, The rise in temperature of our oceans. Maritime transport currently accounts for 3 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, and it is estimated that if international action is not taken, this will increase to 17 per cent by 2050. Various international organizations have taken several measures to mitigate the negative effects of such emissions. In this paper, we will focus on the European Fuel 55 Directive which raises many questions as to its application, among which the test of emissions (GHG) emitted by each ship stands out.
