Author Guidelines

Authors will observe the following editing rules in their submissions:

• Authors will submit their text through the platform for this enabled on the journal page: www.uc3m.es/CIAN. In order to send their proposals, authors must register in the "Enter" tab of the horizontal navigation menu. Furthermore, authors must write to the journal's email (cuadernos.nebrija@gmail.com) attaching a copy of the submitted article in Word document format. The reception of the article will be confirmed by the Editorial office. 

•  In order to be published in the December issue of CIAN, the deadline for receipt of original articles is June 15. After this deadline, the article submitted to the journal will be evaluated for the following year's issue.

•  Regarding the length limits, the Editorial reserves the right to request the reduction of the article submitted for publication, in both the Studies section and the Dossier, if they exceed 20,000 words.  In the case of reviews in the Bibliography section they may not exceed 4,000 words. Additionally, in the Dossiers, coordinator presentations may not exceed 5,000 words         

• Articles written in Spanish or English will be accepted.

• The journal only accepts original papers. Following this criterion of originality, research papers in Spanish or English that have been previously published in another language will not be accepted.

• The article will be preceded by the title, abstract and keywords in Spanish / original language and in English. In addition, the author must indicate, below his/her name, his/her email address.

• The notes will be at the foot of the page and indicated in the text in superscript.

• The font selected for the text is "Times New Roman", size 12, one and a half space (1.5). For the notes, the size 10.

• If images are included, the necessary resolution is 300 points and these will be sent in jpg files as documents separate from the word file. The illustrations must be numbered consecutively according to the text, indicating the place where they should be included as follows (fig. 1). The numbering and the corresponding captions will be indicated in a different file.

• The graphic material subject to copyright, or reproduction, must be accompanied by the corresponding authorizations and, where appropriate, the citation of the sources.

• Italics are reserved for titles of works and words in languages other than the original of the text.

• To enclose quotes, phrases or words, use the low or angle quotation marks. The high quotation marks - double - or French will be used in those cases in which there is a quote or word that you want to highlight inserted inside another.

Eg: «We send the Egyptians who are wandering through our Kingdoms and Lordships “with their wives and children” that the day this law ...».

• Long verbatim quotes (longer than four lines) will be taken out of the main speech and become a separate paragraph. This paragraph should be separated by one line from both the previous and subsequent paragraphs. Likewise, several typographical changes must be applied, such as the absence of quotation marks, the font size 11, the single spacing and a left margin of 2.5 cm.

 

The Chicago system for footnotes will be used for which the following instructions will be followed:

-Books:

One author: Charles S. Maier, In Search of Stability: explorations in historical political economy (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1987).

Two or more authors: Tony Judt and Timothy Snyder, Pensar el siglo XX (Madrid: Taurus, 2012), 408 p.

-Articles in Journals:

-Latin phrases will not be used. Instead, the full story will be written the first time a particular source appears in the article. In subsequent footnotes for the same source, only the author's last name, an abbreviated version of the book title, and the page number will be included. For example:

Maier, Dissolution, 22.

Fusi and Palafox, Spain 1808-1996, 98-100.

• The Chicago system will also be followed for the organization of the final bibliography. These instructions will be followed:
