Comparative Foundational Profiles by Contexts of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (1821) and the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (1889)
Abstract
This work offers a succinct comparison of the founding profiles of the University of Buenos Aires (1821) and the National University of Asunción (1889). It analyzes the historical background, the ideological contexts and the political-state contexts that framed the creation of both nineteenth-century universities located in the Southern Cone of America. For this purpose, contrast by context is applied as a methodological strategy, fundamentally, on the basis of interpretive sources versed in the histories of both institutions. It identifies as congruence the procreation of new political creole generations, which seek to break with the predominant thought that precedes them to consolidate their national states, in a general way, and organize the national educational system, in a specific way. Even so, the foundations of the UBA and the UNA seem to close attempts from previous centuries for both cities to have their local universities.
