Abstract
During Middle Ages and Modern Era, Military Orders were institutions in which female religiosity had a secondary function, only inside convent. Military Order of Santiago was an exception during the first centuries of its existence. From the XIIth century to XIVth century, in Militar Order of Santiago women enjoyed more autonomy and rights than women at other Military Orders. But in the XVth century their rights diminished and they were obligated to live in monastic confinement. The end of Middle Ages and the State consolidation signified for the Military Order´s nuns a great lost of privileges and freedom, like nuns at the other Military Orders.
