Abstract

The role of women in society and their discrimination was justified in the past by some ideas on the nature of women, considered full of vices and incapable of being educated. This paper focuses on the arguments about feminine nature as one of the main points of the querelle of women. First of all it analysis the ideas expressed by a Castilian writer and politician of the XVth century, Álvaro de Luna. Later on it studies the ideas of some Muslim and Jewish scholars on the same topic, the nature of women. Finally it ends with a brief consideration about the differences between the way women were treated by the theorist and how they were treated in ordinary life
