Abstract

This article focuses on which one of the meanings the Spanish word “real” has, ─“true” and “royal”─ underlies the current demands for a “real democracy”, as can be seen in movements like 15-M. The conclusion of the analysis is that those petitions include both senses: for democracy to be true, “real”, it has to be “royal” as well.
