Abstract

Transparency is a term really significant today as it corresponds to an essential and necessary value in the political, economic and social development. Transparency is inherently linked to the right to know the citizens, who increasingly demand to be sufficiently informed and have greater involvement in decisions that affect them. Transparency is a basic pillar and the need to develop and promote from all levels of society as key to achieving social equity and economic efficiency. In this context, and with these goals, civil society is developing initiatives that promote and foster this transparency, and among them include the NGO Transparency International, whose primary purpose is to combat corruption and build transparency tools, since this is the best antidote against corruption. This text refers to some of the experiences developed by Transparency International Spain, as in the Transparency Index of the Municipalities, which in its successive editions has driven a clear improvement in the level of openness of information from these local Spanish entities.
