Abstract

The invisibility and exclusion of women in academia, remains an unavoidable issue, because as they progress in their academic career, the performance decreases. A study conducted in a framework on human rights and university context, in relation to the concepts that have academic / as about gender, collected the discourses of focus groups made up of academics / as various disciplinary and from areas four universities of central Maule, Chile. The narratives allowed access to the understandings that have about gender, preservation of historical memory in academia, characterize their daily practices, identify the relationships, knowing which codes are exchanged in university labor relations and analyze the social representations about feminism and its ideological implications. The main findings realize the androcentric perspective that still encourages academic practices, silence and absence of thematic configurations about memory, for example, meaning the military dictatorship from 1973 to 1990 and the violation of human rights. Women showed a difficulty in solidarity with each other, identify with their gender, with the history of struggles and feminist movements, political events to choose silence. The feminine discourse, was built with the same features as the academic, with generalizations about behaviors, naturalization of female and male roles, exclusion in language and attitudes, association with gender stereotypes and the construction of a subjectivity of others to historical processes, with assumption of passivity and silence, with the consequence of lower social prestige in the socio-political education.
