Abstract

Gender as a structural determinant of health implies recognizing that men and women experience health and access to associated goods and services unequally. The gender approach emerges as a useful and necessary tool to address and rectify such inequalities. Rwanda serves as an example of a country where public health policies, incorporating this approach, have substantially improved health and well-being indicators for women.
