Abstract

Freedom of choice of law in international contract law is not a mere stopgap, but a general connection principle. This paper shows the reasons of the contemporary validity of party autonomy in conflict of contract laws and analyses the consequences of the freedom of choice of law as well as its limits in light of the Rome I Regulation and the Inter-American Convention on the Law Applicable to International Contracts.
