Memoria e Historia
Abstract

Abstract: The contributions made by Julio Aróstegui to the culture of memory were early and cannot be separated from his input to the theory and the method of the History, and, in particular, from his interpretation of the History of the Present. He bet on historicizing the memory and combining historiographic rigour, debate and dissemination in his analysis and evaluations of the generational memories and memory policies. In this sense, Aróstegui turned the university sphere, by the chair “Historical Memory of the 20th century” at the Complutense, into an exceptional forum for meeting, discussion and research on the traumatic memory of the Civil War and the repression of the Franco regime.
