The Meanders of the Antiliberal Right
Gaps, Proposals and Interpretations on extreme right (1880-1940)
Abstract
Unlike other political cultures, historiography has developed endless typologies to analytically categorize the extreme-right. With a critical regard, this text proposes the concept of "anti-liberal right" as a conceptualization that allows it to be examined as a political culture united by an anti-liberal ethos. An approach to its anti-modern nature reveals both the consubstantial cohesion of its members and the natural limits with other anti-parliamentary forces. This perspective makes it possible to integrate the plurality of extreme responses, such as reactionism or fascism, within a shared ideological space and historically address the disparity of projects, proposals and doctrines that were developed along different junctures.
