Abstract
Gender-based violence is a current problem that has been visible, for a few years, through the media, but which continues to be relegated to a minor social issue, when compared with other forms of violence, and that In any case, it responds to an attitude of guilt and responsibility of abusers, and even of the victims themselves. However, the data we find, with regional variations, are alarming and permeate all societies. Starting from the idea that there is a relationship between gender violence and inequality, this work analyzes the social architecture from which this violence is constructed, legitimates and perpetuates To carry out this objective we use a methodology that covers the bibliographic analysis, and data from different statistical sources and articles. The result suggests that there is a scenario of underrepresentation of women at a social, economic and institutional level that leads to an undervaluation of women, and that leads to a silent acceptance of violence against women, at all levels, which allows us affirm that the violence is structural, surpasses pure physical or verbal aggression in the family context, and that, consequently, there is an institutional complicity.
