Game Jams as an Educational Method to Promote Gender Equality in the Video Game Industry
Abstract
In recent years, attention to the role of women in the video game industry has increased, and higher education has been promoting inclusive methodologies to create more equitable environments. This study aims to analyze female participation in events like Game Jams in order to improve learning environments and adjust effective pedagogical tactics. The research, based on a descriptive quantitative approach, shows that student perceptions are becoming more gender-neutral, highlighting more equitable relationships in these spaces. This progress can partly be attributed to collaborative practices, which not only encourage participation but also socialization. However, a significant gender gap persists in the video game industry, where women remain a minority compared to men. This disparity underscores the need to implement gender equality policies, promote diversity at all levels, and foster a respectful, harassment-free work culture to address this imbalance.
