De omisiones relevantes: Franco, la cuestión agraria y las contorsiones de Stanley G. Payne
Abstract
El presente artículo aborda la falta de profundidad en el tratamiento de la cuestión agraria en la reciente biografía de Payne y Palacios sobre Franco. Las obras anteriores del historiador norteamericano muestran que no desconoce el tema pero omiten numerosas obras de especialistas que han renovado la historiografía sobre este asunto. Los tres momentos más relevantes en relación con la cuestión agraria son la primavera de 1936, el desmantelamiento de la reforma agraria de la República durante la Guerra Civil asociado a la represión y la relativa importancia que se le da a la agricultura durante la consolidación del régimen de Franco. En la biografía de Payne y Palacios nada se comenta sobre la importancia del grupo de grandes propietarios en los orígenes y en la consolidación del franquismo.

Abstract: This article studies the lack of depth in the treatment of the agrarian question in the recent biography written by Payne and Palacios about Franco´s figure. Earlier works written by the American historian exhibit he knows the topic but omit many books and papers written by specialists who have renewed the historiography on this subject. Three most important moments in relation to the agrarian question are the spring of 1936, the dismantling of the agrarian reform started up by the Republic during the Civil War associated with the repression and the relative importance given to agriculture during the consolidation of Franco´s regime. Payne's biography and Palacios nothing says about the importance of the group of major landowners in the origins and consolidation of this regime.
