The first chairs of law and economics at the University of London
Abstract
The content of this article revolves around the reformism of university teaching in relation to law and economics at the University of London after its creation in 1826. It begins with a brief historical overview of the chaotic situation of law teaching at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. On the other hand, just as the aim was to reform studies to better prepare lawyers and even legislators, there was a clear objective to teach Political Economy by economists and for economists, disassociating it from law professors. The rest of the contributions are biographical summaries of the first professors and their specific ways of integrating content and teaching in order to modernize university education.
