Crimson red. The Women’s International Democratic Federation and the Union of Argentine Women between 1975 and 1991
Abstract
The performance of the women of the Argentine Communist Party (PCA) in both the International Democratic Federation of Women (FDIM) and the Women’s Union of Argentina (UMA) has not been sufficiently explored. In this work we propose to carry out a reconstruction of these militancy at different scales of action between 1975 and 1991. Firstly, we seek to recover the transnational character of the communist project by focusing on the areas of articulation and intertwining of the militancy; in the materialization of a program with global aspiration and its application to a concrete reality with its specificities. Secondly, we analyze the period that begins in 1975 with the sanction of the Women’s Decade by the United Nations (UN) until the fall of the Berlin Wall and the beginning of the disintegration of the Soviet world. The objective is to observe the changes that have arisen in both the lines and the political practices developed at the intersection with feminisms. Our hypothesis is that the encounter with feminisms helped renew the agendas of struggle in the second half of the 1980s, while it was important as a survival mechanism for militancy in the context of crisis and end of the Soviet experience.
