Analysis of information on COVID-19 on websites of public health organizations
Abstract
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has become an unprecedented health crisis, the uncertainty and anxiety that citizens may experience can increase their dependence on information. Therefore, accurate and updated information regarding health protection must be transmitted. Objectives: Identify the resources published for citizenship about COVID-19 on the websites of public health institutions. Methods: It is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The websites of public health institutions that included information sections on COVID-19 intended for citizens were analyzed. Results: The information published, between February and May 2020, from a total of 24 websites in Spanish was analyzed. The most important categories that included information on COVID-19 were handwashing, prevention of contagion and the use of masks, with 96%, 92% and 88% respectively of the information analyzed. Conclusions: The websites analyzed contain electronic informational material on COVID-19 in prevention and protection. In addition, social networks play a fundamental role in the dissemination of information.
