Periodismo de salud en tiempos de crisis = Health journalism in times of crisis
Abstract
Abstract: The journalism specialised in health confronts nowadays three crises. To the traditional one caused by the complex relations between doctors and journalists, the general recession and the particular recession affecting the traditional press sector are added. Since the current recession broke out, more than 200 media have closed and almost 12000 media professionals have been made redundant in Spain. In the face of limited economic resources, press businesses have decided to reduce their staff and, also in many cases, do without specialised editors. The existence of an increasingly ageing population who demands insistently higher quality information, justifies the need of a journalism specialised in health.
Key words: Specialised journalism, health, recession, doctors, journalists, unemployment, ageing.
