The role of mathematical models in the Vaccination Strategy against COVID-19 in Spain
Abstract
Mathematical models for the prediction of communicable diseases preventable by vaccination helps to evaluate the impact of implemented or future vaccination programmes. So far, there has been little culture of modelling in this area, the results of which will serve to make adjustments in the planning and monitoring of these programs. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided a boost to the development of mathematical vaccination models, due to the collaboration between modelers and Public Health professionals contributing to the adjustment of the COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy in Spain. It is necessary to consolidate and continue promoting this research capacity, bring mathematical models closer to professionals and quickly incorporate the use of these tools into decision-making.
